BA – 03 – 1-Workforce Development And Family Literacy Programs

WHEREAS the Colorado State Legislature passed HB 02-1303, which provided legislation to facilitate Family Literacy Programs in our state; and

WHEREAS the accepted Federal definition for Family Literacy includes (1) adult education leading to economic self-sufficiency, (2) parent training as their child’s first teacher, (3) interactive literacy activities for parent and child together, and (4) educational support for children leading to success in school and life; and

WHEREAS research in Colorado and nationwide regarding the most effective way to improve economic self-sufficiency for families, both short term and long term, is by educating the parent(s) and child(ren) together in a Family Literacy Program;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that CLUB 20 supports State funding and support for family literacy, including adult education, to enhance a viable workforce and provide funding that is consistent with other states.
