PLNR-00-9-Dinosaur National Monument & Vermillion National Monument – Opposition to Expansion of

WHEREAS The citizens of Moffat County have requested the Board of County Commissioners to intercede in  a proposal to establish Vermillion National Monument and expand Dinosaur National Monument; and

WHEREAS The proponents  did in fact confirm that they had not involved the citizens of Moffat County, the Board of County Commissioners or any other recognized citizens groups; before filing their petition with President Clinton; and

WHEREAS The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) clearly states that any federal land use decision requires local government and citizens interested in the proposal to be involved in the process; and

WHEREAS The expansion of Dinosaur National Monument and the creation of the Vermillion National Monument will have adverse impacts on the local and regional economies.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Club 20 strongly opposes any expansion of Dinosaur National Monument or the creation of the Vermillion National Monument without substantial local public support.
