PLNR-06-2-Hunting License Allocation, Resident vs. Non-Resident

WHEREAS big game hunting generates millions of dollars of economic activity in rural Western Colorado; and

WHEREAS non-resident hunters consistently spend more money during their hunting visits than do resident hunters, and this money is new money to the state’s economy; and

WHEREAS non-resident hunters contribute significantly more license revenues to pay for management of Colorado’s wildlife populations than do resident hunters; and

WHEREAS  it is important for the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission to balance the needs of both the resident hunting community and the non-resident  hunting community;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that CLUB 20 urges the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission to place more emphasis on the important economic contributions that non-resident hunters make to rural communities and the significant contribution that they make to fund Colorado Parks and Wildlife, as they determine the appropriate allocation of resident and non-resident licenses to sell to the public, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that CLUB 20 supports that this license allocation decision continue to be made by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission and not by the General Assembly or by citizen ballot initiative.
