WHEREAS Narrow Banding is the restriction of radio transmission spectrum allotted to public safety including firefighters, law enforcement, mountain rescue, EMT, and County Road and Bridge
WHEREAS the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has mandated VHF narrow banding that impacts the quality of public radio communication systems, and
WHEREAS additional scheduled narrow banding will further significantly impact public safety in mountainous regions, and
WHEREAS narrow banding degrades the clarity and quality of VHF/UHF radio transmissions due to terrain and distance in mountain regions and creates a public safety issue for responders that may put lives in jeopardy, and
WHEREAS mountain communities have been required to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in making equipment compliant with current narrow banding requirements, and do not have the funds available to be compliant with stated future narrow banding requirements,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED CLUB 20 opposes further VHF/UHF narrow banding in mountainous regions, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that CLUB 20 urges the FCC to grant a waiver to mountainous regions to opt out of further scheduled VHF/UHF narrow banding plans.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that CLUB 20 encourages the FCC and the State of Colorado to maintain the current systems in use
