TE-89-1-Rural Colorado Telecommunication Upgrades

WHEREAS CLUB 20 believes the access and availability of advanced telecommunications services are important to current and future economic development efforts in western Colorado; and

WHEREAS CLUB 20 recognizes that the State of Colorado along with telecommunications providers have made substantial investments to connect all 64 counties in the state; and

WHEREAS there remain rural and high-cost areas in the state where connections for broadband networks are not sufficient for use by small businesses, home-based businesses and residential consumers; and

WHEREAS CLUB 20 feels very strongly about the vital importance of this issue and affirms all its member communities are entitled to state‑of‑the‑art telecommunications technology; and

WHEREAS CLUB 20 is working to create an environment where innovative ideas, public-private partnerships and incentives are used to develop telecommunications solutions, which will meet the needs of rural Colorado and to ensure advanced services are universally available;

WHEREAS CLUB 20 supports broadband stimulus programs which represent a historic opportunity to connect rural communities, grow local economies, create jobs and build out our state’s communications infrastructure;


  • CLUB 20 urges local, state and federal policymakers to provide additional incentives or remove roadblocks for the further development of broadband networks in western Colorado,
  • CLUB 20 supports efforts to enhance broadband access throughout the Western Slope region, and
  • CLUB 20 affirms that publicly-funded telecommunications networks should provide access on a non-discriminatory, competitively neutral basis at just and reasonable rates.
