AG – 06 – 1-Diversification of Agriculture Production

WHEREAS new products and markets are necessary for continued success and development in agriculture; and

WHEREAS  specialty crop production has the potential to sustain the economic viability of Colorado agriculture, enhances the quality of life for Coloradoans, and makes the most efficient use of nonrenewable and on-farm resources; and

WHEREAS the diversification of agriculture can help farmers add value to their products and stimulate innovation in agriculture; and

WHEREAS non-traditional livestock and plant production, such as hemp, llama, elk, buffalo, alpaca, yak, and emu has been successful and continues to show great promise;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that CLUB 20 supports the continuing diversification of Colorado’s agricultural industry in order to add value to agriculture products and stimulate innovation in agriculture, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that CLUB 20 supports deer and elk ranching  as a private enterprise as long as such enterprises are regulated to ensure protection of domestic livestock and wildlife populations, and CLUB 20 further believes that the Colorado State Department of Agriculture should continue as the regulating agency for deer and elk agriculture operations.
