HC-03-2-Individual Responsibility In Health Care

WHEREAS all citizens must help solve Colorado’s health care issues; and

WHEREAS consumers must assume greater responsibility for their health care and must have the opportunity to be educated about their health care choices; and

 WHEREAS Coloradans must understand all implications and unintended consequences of requirements and restrictions mandated by government such as adverse selection, guarantee-issue policies, and mandated benefits;

 NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Club 20 believes individual responsibilities include:

  • education and encouragement to make all reasonable efforts to maintain adequate health care insurance coverage for themselves and their dependents.
  • adopting healthy lifestyles, practicing wise use of health care resources, including taking steps to educate themselves regarding benefits and risks of health care decisions.
  • sharing in the cost of their health care.
  • adopting prevention and wellness measures.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Club 20 supports health care policy that develops understanding of the true cost of health care and rewards individuals who access the system responsibly; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Club 20 supports quality and safety initiatives promoted by payers, health care providers and consumers through which adequate information is made available to support consumer buying based on quality.
