TR – 00 – 1-Highway Safety Improvements Associated With National Landmark Designations

WHEREAS the creation of national landmark designations such as the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and the Colorado National Monument increases tourism traffic on Western Colorado highways; and

WHEREAS many Western Colorado highways are in need of shoulder improvements, acceleration and deceleration approaches, new passing lanes, and bike paths; and

WHEREAS national landmark designations inherently have special transportation infrastructure needs and thus require additional expenditures by the Colorado Department of Transportation;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that CLUB 20 supports increased safety improvements and related expenditures for Western Slope highways being impacted by the creation and maintenance of landmark designations such as national parks and national monuments.
